Microsoft Office for iPad is not just a scaled-down version of the desktop software. It’s a cloud-based service that integrates with Microsoft 365, allowing users to access their files and settings from anywhere. Users can also collaborate with others in real time, co-authoring documents and leaving comments. The app also supports Apple Pencil, keyboard shortcuts and trackpad gestures.

The app is free to download from the App Store, but users will need a Microsoft 365 subscription to unlock the full potential of Office for iPad. The subscription also includes access to other apps and services, such as Outlook, OneDrive, Teams and Skype. Microsoft offers several plans for individuals, families, students and businesses, starting at $6.99 per month.

The long-awaited Microsoft Office for iPad has finally arrived. The company announced the release of the new apps at a press event in San Francisco today, where new CEO Satya Nadella made his first public appearance since taking over from Steve Ballmer.

The new apps include Word, Excel and PowerPoint, the core components of the Office suite. (OneNote, another Office app, is already available for free on the iPad). The apps are not identical to the Windows versions, but they offer a rich set of features that go beyond the basics. For example, Word lets you edit graphics and collaborate with others, keeping track of changes and comments. The applications have a familiar Ribbon interface, but it has been redesigned for touch. And as with other Office applications, everything is automatically saved to OneDrive, Microsoft’s cloud storage service.
