Microsoft is preparing a series of improvements for Office users.
The company announced Thursday that Office 2016, the latest version of its Office software suite, will be released in the second half of 2015. Office 2016 will include full-featured applications designed for PC and keyboard and mouse use.
Microsoft is also developing separate versions of its Office applications for Windows 10, the upcoming operating system that will run seamlessly across multiple devices. These apps, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook, will run on PCs, tablets and cell phones. Here is an example of Word for Windows 10:
Julia White, general manager of the Office product management team, said Thursday that Office apps for Windows 10 are «designed for touch and deliver the unmistakable Office experience you know and love.»
«These are ‘universal’ Office apps, meaning they are the same app across all device sizes, providing a consistent way for vendors and independent software developers to extend and integrate Office apps,» White added in a blog post.
Office for Windows 10 apps will come pre-installed on Windows 10 mobile devices and will be available as a free download for other devices. They are expected to launch «later this year,» according to White.
