If you are running Windows 10 on your PC, you may want to look for a new update that Microsoft released on September 12, 2023. The update, labeled KB5030211, brings several fixes and improvements to the operating system. Here are some of the highlights of this update:
– Windows will now do a better job of detecting your location, giving you more accurate and relevant weather, news and traffic information.
– More users will see a notification badge for their Microsoft accounts in the Start menu. This badge will alert you to important notifications related to your account, such as security issues, subscription renewals or backup status. A Microsoft account is what links Windows to your Microsoft applications and services and allows you to synchronize your data and settings between devices. You can also add additional security measures to protect your account from unauthorized access.
– The update also makes some changes to the Daylight Saving Time (DST) settings for Israel to reflect the latest legislation.
– The update fixes an issue affecting the Group Policy Service, which is responsible for applying policies to your computer. Previously, the service did not wait for the network to be available before processing policies, which could cause errors or inconsistencies. Now, the service will wait 30 seconds, which is the default timeout, before applying policies.
– The update adds a new API for standalone D3D12 devices, which is a feature that allows you to create multiple D3D12 devices on the same adapter. This can improve the performance and compatibility of some applications that use DirectX 12. For more information about this feature, you can visit this page: Standalone D3D12 devices.
– The update fixes an issue that affected an application that simulates keyboard input, such as a virtual keyboard. Previously, the application did not correctly send Japanese characters to other applications. Now the application will be able to send Japanese characters without any problems.
– The update fixes a problem affecting a WS_EX_LAYERED window, which is a type of window that can have transparent or translucent effects. Previously, the window was rendered with incorrect dimensions or in the wrong position when scaling the screen. Now, the window will be displayed correctly regardless of the display scale.
– The update fixes an issue that affected print jobs that were sent to a virtual print queue, such as a PDF printer. Previously, print jobs failed without any error message. Now, print jobs will complete correctly or display an error message if there is a problem.
– The update fixes a problem that affected BitLocker-encrypted disk partitions. Previously, if you deleted a disk partition and added the deleted partition’s space to an existing BitLocker partition, the system could stop working. Now you can safely resize your BitLocker partitions without any risk of system failure.
– The update fixes an issue that affected Remote Desktop (RD) sessions, which allow you to access your PC remotely. Previously, DR sessions would disconnect when you used multiple applications at the same time. Now, DR sessions will remain stable and connected even when multitasking with multiple applications.
– The update fixes a problem that affected the display of the search box in the taskbar. Previously, the search box would sometimes disappear or become unresponsive. Now, the search box will always be visible and responsive.
